Throughout the senior project application process, I appreciated the freedom we were given to explore any interest. Although I did not choose the passion project option, I've been wanting to learn more about the operations of the Reserve for a long time and was thrilled to finally get the opportunity to do that. A lot of my experience working in the golf shop and in accounting was a learn-as-I-go process. This pushed me to think on my feet, which relates to my initial goal of gaining confidence with flexible schedules. The level of activity heavily depended on time and weather. In the process of tracking how various factors affect revenue, I learned how to enter weather data, complete daily closings, perform customer service, and work with excel  accounting spreadsheets. In conclusion, I would recommend this senior project to other students, especially if they have an interest in the sport and enjoy interacting with new people every day. After my senior project experience, I'm ...

A story about a happy/challenging/funny/meaningful moment from the week: The air conditioning in the shop stopped working during our mini heatwave earlier this week. However, we were able to open the doors and eventually get it fixed in the afternoon! What I've learned and progress reflection: I learned about rate changes for the different seasons of the year and how to contact player services over the walkie talkie.  In addition to helping out at the shop, I've spent some of my free time learning the definitions of various golf terms. Pasted below is the list of terms I'm currently trying to memorize.  Definitions are copied and pasted from https://practical-golf.com/golf-terms/ Birdie – When you score one stroke under par   Par – When your score for the hole equals the listed par Bogey – Scoring one stroke above par   Double Bogey – Scoring two strokes above par  Green in Regulation –  When any part of the golf ball is touching the putting surfa...

A golf club member came into the shop on Tuesday to check in for his tee time and asked, “Are you Korean?” I said “Yeah!” Cheerfully, he responded, “Wow! Me too!” and then introduced me to his four year old (my best age estimate) daughter. She was very cute, and we had a short exchange in Korean. Although I’m not a fluent speaker, I can understand the language, because my parents use it at home. Another time, a woman came in and used Korean with me at the counter, because it was more comfortable for her than English. It's a good feeling to know that the Duolingo I’ve been practicing during the pandemic hasn’t gone to waste and that it is even allowing me to connect with a few golf club members.  On Monday, I got to learn about accounting and golf data input from the past year. Reflecting on my goals from last week, I’ve gotten to see the Reserve Vintage Room restaurant open for the first time in over a year and observed how the decrease in mandates has impacted people's attitud...

Hello and welcome to my blog  👋 For my senior project, I am working at the  Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club with Kay Han, my onsite mentor.  I chose this project to learn about sports marketing and the operations of a local business. As the weather warms up and the Oregon rain subsides, activity at the golf course typically increases. During this time of the year, I would like to be helpful around the workplace, specifically in the Pro Shop.  The purpose of my senior project is to check in members, set up tee times, sell merchandise, and learn about each department. While working at the Pro Shop, I enjoyed seeing people support a local business and spend time outdoors playing golf. Throughout the pandemic, it has been important to stay updated on the latest mandates surrounding facilities that are open to the public. Through working at the Reserve this spring, I will naturally learn about how laws impact businesses. I also do not know how to play golf, so I hope imm...
