Week 1

Hello and welcome to my blog 👋

For my senior project, I am working at the Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club with Kay Han, my onsite mentor. I chose this project to learn about sports marketing and the operations of a local business. As the weather warms up and the Oregon rain subsides, activity at the golf course typically increases. During this time of the year, I would like to be helpful around the workplace, specifically in the Pro Shop. The purpose of my senior project is to check in members, set up tee times, sell merchandise, and learn about each department. While working at the Pro Shop, I enjoyed seeing people support a local business and spend time outdoors playing golf.

Throughout the pandemic, it has been important to stay updated on the latest mandates surrounding facilities that are open to the public. Through working at the Reserve this spring, I will naturally learn about how laws impact businesses.

I also do not know how to play golf, so I hope immersing myself in that environment and practicing once a week will teach me about the sport. Stay tuned for updates and maybe even videos of my progress (no promises that my form will be any good, though).

At the conclusion of my project, I will have a much larger appreciation for the operations of a small business and the service industry. During virtual learning, my school schedule and assignments were usually predictable and structured. Because my projects at the golf course will change from day to day depending on what they need, I hope that this project will teach me to be more flexible with my work life.
